A number of learner-centered teaching innovations like Group Discussion (on Budget), Debate (on the status of Fungus), Quiz (in teaching History of Literature), Mock-Parliament (debating topics importance), Stall Demo on issues of social relevance, Projects and Surveys requiring self-exploration—are adopted in order to ensure the involvement of students in the learning process and thereby convert teaching into learning.
The advanced students are challenged to work ahead in a number of ways:
They can borrow more books from the library.
They are encouraged to sum up a lecture after its discussion by the teacher.
They are encouraged to monitor Group Discussions and also to act as Quiz Master of the department.
The progress of the students is assessed throughout the year through class tests (normally four tests for Hons papers of 100 marks), and two other Tests are held. The tests are to be taken seriously, for marks obtained in class tests are recorded in the Merit Register and taken into account to determine the eligibility of a student for taking University Examination. The tests are instrumental in assessing the acquisitional skill of learners and thereby paying more attention to the slow learners. Apart from regular classes, special assistance is provided to such students through Remedial programmes, generally conducted with the assistance of UGC.
Grievance Redressal Cell
Earlier the college used to have a Disciplinary Committee to look into various complaints relating to its day to day functioning. Subsequently the college Governing Body constituted a Grievance Redressal Cell to address all grievances expressed by students, guardians, and staff. The GRC has created an e-mail id firstname.lastname@example.org so that grievances could be sent to authority from anywhere and the complaints could be on record.
Parent Staff Meeting
The college meets the parents/guardians of the students every year usually on July 28, the college Foundation Day. All parents/guardians are cordially invited to attend the meeting and enrich the College Authority with their valuable feedback for improvement.
